Here It Comes

It's finally here. I'm starting on my own CD project in less than a week. I've slated 5 songs to do up front. They range everywhere from dance/r&b to ballads to praise and worship. It'll be a wild ride. I'll be putting things up here and on myspace so you can take a listen.

Before a Month Passes

I have to make a post before a month goes by. Otherwise, Matt, the blog-Nazi will ream me for not doing so.

Here's my artistic little niece glittering her pumpkin for halloween.

Today's Lunch : LA Gourmet

I've been on an 'everything tomato' kick lately. But my favorite place to get my fix is LA Gourmet. It's on McKinney within walking distance of Elaine's new office. I'm thinking hamburger and pepporoni today.

Singing in Waco

Got to sing at Woodway First United Methodist this past weekend with my pals Carlton and Eric. It's the first time I've done a full concert in awhile - but it was exciting and motivating to finish some of my songs and get back out there.

First Family Vacation

We took our first family vacation last week. We traveled down to Corpus Christi with some friends (Tyler and Evie) and our lab, Harrison. It was awesome. Harrison was the best travel companion.

I Like to Shoot

Got an opportunity to go to a firing range with Mike and David this morning. I always like shooting - but I didn't realize I liked it this much....

First we shot 2 different 12 gauge shotguns...one pump-action police issue overstock that kicked nicely. I like it when the recoil is pretty harsh...seems a little more sporting that way.

Then we stepped over to the pistol range where I got to try out a couple of different hand guns. My favorite was the glock... Today felt very redneck - but very fun.

Might I Suggest

Pappy's Hamburger Co. on Mockingbird.

Tyler and I went on a whim. Great stuff. Greasy spoon. And fine fried okra.

Today's Lunch : Which Wich

Elaine recently moved to the Uptown branch of Republic Title. At the bottom of her building, there is a sandwich place called Which Wich. Pretty good stuff.
For all you Wacoans, it's kinda like Quizno's goes to Heitmiller's where you fill out your order on a little form and turn it in.

Tonight, we're going to see :

The Omen. Everyone needs a good horror flick now and again.

North Carolina and Nashville

Elaine and I are on our little mini-vacation....tonight was filled with big band music in an awesome Brentwood park...
Earlier in the week, we were at the wedding of Ray and Sarah Green. Even though it was regularly meant to be outside and was rained out --- it was very cool.

Gavin

Always amazing.

Elaine and I went to see Gavin perform at Gilley's on Monday night. Though it was initally a little odd to be at Gilley's after Reunion had held church there a few months back, it turned out to be an awesome night.

Gavin. What can you say? He's normal, he's cool, and he's dang talented. He threw in a couple of new ones, and I'm excited to see what comes out on his next album.

In other news - there's a guy that's a little Gavin-esque. His name is Jimmy Needham. Check him out... www.jimmyneedham.com

Mary Jane

While Elaine and I were displaced from our house, we stayed in the Verandas on Gaston.

While we were there we met a guy (who we'll call Jack for the sake of our story).
Jack was a cool guy. Manager of a store in North Park Mall and pretty friendly. He also had a cool dog that Harrison really got along with. We'll call the dog Spot.

One night we pass Jack on the stairs up to our place and he asks, "Are you guys up to no good?" I reply no. And then as he continues walking away from us I yell , "At least not yet" and follow it up with a healthy fake laugh.

20 minutes later he comes up to our place and asks if we want to come hang out. Even though it's almost 11 on a Thrusday night, we agree to go. By this time we can kinda tell that Jack's a little jacked....probably just a little tipsy.

We go down to his place. Harrison and Spot are having a great time playing. Jack is really relaxed on his couch. Then all the sudden he pops up and grabs a device under his cabinet. It looked something like this :

As he started lighting the thing up he said, "I'm so glad you guys are stoners." Elaine and I exchange pretty bewildered glances and I say, "Well, actually, we're not." He says, "You're not?!?" And after having already taken a few drags, attempts to put the thing out and then gets up and shoves it back under a counter.

Before we know it, he's saying how early he has to get up the next morning to go to work.

It was so wild to encounter Mary Jane at this stage in life. But, at least Jack didn't think I was a stiff, rigid person...

April Showers

When it rains it pours. Seriously. I'm currently trying to get our Impala towed across town because it decided to die last night around 10. I had just started getting used to living in our home again since the tree incident... It's always something.

In other good news, I've passed both my Series 6 & 63 licensing exams in order to be able to sell securities. I'm excited about building my business. Hopefully all the rain in April will bring about great things in May.

Animalistic

Usually, when I think of someone being animalistic, I think of someone having no restraint or just being a little crude.
But I got to thinking this morning that everyone might be a little happier if they were a little more animalistic. My dog, Harrison, has the same exact routine everyday, but he's always happy to do it. If he ever does get bored, he doesn't take it out on anyone else. If we could all be a little more like that....

I'm Handy

Not really. I guess you learn to be handy when your Jack and the Beanstalk size tree hits your house.

The Treehouse

Saturday night we came home to find one of our 75-100 year old Red Oak trees on top of our house and in our bedroom. In the process, this tree took out most of our concrete backyard decor, and made our roof look like swiss cheese.
On top of all that, Dallas took 10+ inches of rain. Luckily, my father and cousin were here to help secure the roof so that we weren't swimming in our house.
So, we now embark on finding out the extent of our damage and getting people to work on this house.
I'm proud of our sturdy little house, though. It handled it really well.

Oh - and Harrison was the only one home when it fell. He's been a little trooper as well.

Our bedroom...

I can't get any of the other pics to upload right now...but i'll do it later

The Best Frozen Burger. Ever.

So. I'm a burger guy. And I'm always looking for ways to enjoy more burgers at home. Found it.

Bubba.

Grill 'em. Love 'em. Yum.
