2006 Grammy Awards

The 2006 Grammy Awards in Pictoral Review

Stevie and Alicia opened the evening by singing a little bit of Stevie's "Higher" acapella. Awesome. Set the mood for the entire night. They dedicated it to Coretta Scott King.

U2 let Mary J. Blidge get on stage and sing...why? Good question. She added a few good screams in some way too tight pants.
U2 and Mary sang together on Kirk Franklin's song "Lean on Me" back in the day with Crystal Lewis and R. Kelly. They should've let Crystal sing. But props to U2 for stretching a little and collaborating with someone outside of their box.
But really, what's with the CoExist U2 is always promoting. I believe in peace --- but when you flash the word 'One' in hundreds of languages across the screen and then flash the COEXIST
sign, I get a little confused.

Sly Stone was resurrected. At 61, Sly, with a fake blond mohawk, looked and moved more like a dancer out of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video. But we'll cut him slack (a lot...and then some more) for all the great jams.

Madonna, Madge, opened the show...along with Gorillaz (yes...the animated band). She looks pretty dang good for her age.

I think Kelly Clarkson won 2 Grammys. From American Idol to Grammys. Nice. But the poor girl wouldn't stop crying. Her performance was good --- but she just doesn't ever need to speak in public. Ever.

Poor guy. Of all nights to dress poorly. Something about the gloves reminded me of OJ. But the performance of "Gold Digger" with the band theme was amazing.

Mariah hasn't won a grammy since 1990 - but last night she won 3. She sang "Fly like a Bird" with Hezekiah Walker's choir. Amazing singer and songwriter.

Coldplay. Dang good songs.

Worst New Artist : Sugarland.
They remind us of everything we hate about country music.

Probably my favorite part of the night was Christina Aguilera and Herbie Hancock. Herbie's got some mad piano skilss...and well... Christina -- Way to represent for the white folk.

See now I flipped onto the Gold Digger marching band performance and all I could think was that they are going to regret those costumes a few years from now. Kanye has just about the biggest ego ever. And I love X-tina, even though that tattoo makes no sense. Wouldn't that be double t's? It's not X-tmas. But I digress, you know where the talent lies when she's asked to perform at the Grammy's and Britney barely gets invited to the afterparties. Loved Alicia and Stevie. I think Madonna had on the knee length pantyhose to hide the varicose veins...she's so old.
